Common Questions
How do I know when it's time to get help?
People often consider seeing a therapist when they notice that:
- Their emotions are affecting sleep, appetite, work, or relationships.
- They feel “stuck,” and things aren’t improving on their own.
- They’ve tried to find answers but can’t seem to resolve the problem.
If you identify with any of these signs, counseling can help you gain clarity, peace, and direction.
At Note To Self Counseling, I provide therapy to help teens and adults find emotional stability and lasting change.
How much does counseling cost? Session fees are consistent with the mid-range for private practice psychotherapy in Miami-Dade County
- Individual Counseling: $110 per 53–60 minute session
- Frequency: Sessions are typically scheduled once or twice a week, depending on your needs.
All fees are discussed clearly before your first appointment.
Will my insurance pay for my sessions?
I offer flexible payment options, including Aetna, Cigna, and private pay. Many clients choose the private pay approach because it protects confidentiality, allows for personalized treatment, and avoids diagnostic labeling required by insurance companies. I offer honor-based sliding scales for clients who qualify.
What can I expect during the initial appointment?
Your first appointment is a welcoming, structured intake designed to help us get to know each other. I will ask questions about your history, health, and reasons for seeking therapy. Together, you’ll begin clarifying your goals and exploring what brought you to this point.
This first meeting is also an opportunity to ensure a good therapeutic fit. If for any reason it appears your needs would be better met elsewhere, I will provide trusted referrals.
How long will it take?
The length of therapy varies depending on your personal goals and the depth of the issues being addressed.
Some clients experience noticeable improvement within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work. After the first few sessions, I offer a clearer sense of what your therapeutic timeline might look like.
What about medications?
Only psychiatrists and other medical doctors can prescribe medication.
While I do not prescribe, I collaborate closely with trusted psychiatrists and medical professionals when appropriate.
Not every client needs medication; however, for some, a combined approach of therapy and medication can offer significant relief, especially for chronic anxiety or depression. If medication seems helpful, you’ll receive guidance for evaluation while maintaining full choice in your treatment decisions.
